2026 Easter Trip

Wow. We had a fun Easter trip.

We started with a night in Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area on the shore of Lake Barkley, Kentucky. The next day we drove thru the Elk and Bison Prairie. From there we went to Mark Twain National Forest in Missouri. Where we spent a night and had a wonderful Easter morning. We then went to visit Big Spring. That was amazing to see, just watch the video, I don’t know how to describe that much water spewing out of the ground.

After hiking around the spring, we drove a fun trail that long ago was a railway. It was flat except for where the track used to cross creeks. Without a bridge it was a deep drop, barely a bottom and straight up the other side. Nothing too difficult but it was fun. We found a great campground, that we had to ourselves, for only $10. Thanks to our Starlink Mini we were able to get online and get the site without having to drive to find cell service.

Waking up on the Current River was fantastic. The morning mist drifting down the river was mesmerizing. After packing up and hitting the trail we found a bluff overlook that had a fantastic view of the river. We drove to another large spring with an old grist mill and found another great campground.

The next morning after we woke up, we got to see a small herd of wild horses. We drove back to Land Between the Lakes, but this time stayed in Tennessee. The point we found to camp on was on Kentucky Lake. (Yep, it can be confusing. Kentucky Lake in Tennessee.) The view was fantastic both for sunset and sunrise.

Please watch our YouTube show about the trip. I want to get better at videography so we can produce more videos. I take too many pictures and don’t always think about video, and I’m horrible about having too much fun driving to video our trail drives.

The goal is to have a channel to help people who want to explore the world by overlanding. I’d love to be able to make a little gas money with it someday. So, by watching our channel and liking, subscribing and clicking the notification bell you would be helping us immensely.

The channel name is overlandingbasics. And we hope to have a website soon.

So, I’ll stop rambling and let you watch the video right now.

Escape and explore,
