All Things Radio

This page will really be “All Things Radio.” I also use GMRS, callsign WRDE855. And I even dabble in CB. As a matter of fact, I have built a half wave dipole for 11 meters. I used mostly scrap from around the shed while off work during the Covid pandemic in 2020. Hey, the radio was just sitting around anyway, might as well get it on the air.

I’m in the process of building a shelf for the desk with cubbies for radios and a large TV monitor. I also want the shack area to be used as a video studio for YouTube.

My radios:

  • Icom IC-705, QRP, 5w/10w, HF, 50/144/430, all mode, with the AH-705 tuner, and an Alexloop antenna.
  • Kenwood TM-D710GA (mobile)
  • Yaesu FT3DR (every day carry)
  • Baofeng BF-F8HP HT (every day carry)
  • Baofeng UV5R HT’s, 2 of them
  • Cobra 29 CB, WX NW ST (mounted in the shed)
  • Midland MXT115 (mobile)
  • Midland GXT1000 HT’s, 2 of them

GMRS

I just couldn’t remember how to reset the CTCSS tones on my Midland MXT115 radio in the car the other day, so I wrote this post about how to do it, and will add a quick guide and chart that I can print out to keep near the radio. It’s listed under GMRS in my posts, or here’s the link. Midland Privacy Code Programming Guide.

Baofeng Radios

Having trouble remembering how to do stuff on your Baofeng radio? Me too. Listen to FM broadcast? Check the battery voltage? This is about the buttons and knobs. We’ll look at the menus some other time. Here’s a guide to help us out. It’s listed in Ham Radio posts or here’s the link. Baofeng controls quick-guide.
