Senseless
Are we senseless when it comes to knowing God? Lets learn to dig through the Bible to know Him better.

Today while reading The Knowledge of the Holy by A.W. Tozer and thinking about how God seems beyond our ability to understand. I thought about how we look at things. We look at most things, which He created, and can observe and quantify them. We use all the senses to explore them and describe them. Likewise, we use all the branches of science to study and quantify them. They are in a way below us. We, the created, observe and study the created.
But with God, He is in the other direction. He is above the created, being the creator. We can observe the created and learn about it, but the Creator is above our understanding. He is not so easy to observe and quantify. Science and senses don’t work.
God, being the great God He is, knew this would be a problem. We would not believe in, accept and understand something that was above our ability to comprehend. In His great knowledge He made a way for us to get to know Him, the Bible. It is not just a book about how rebellious sinners can regain our relationship with Him. It is also His way of trying to show Himself to us so that we can try to grasp what He is. We can learn a lot about His character, how He thinks and what He desires. In His wisdom He made it so that we must dig deep into the Word and find Him. Dig Him out and build a strong relationship with Him. We would not gain as much respect for Him if it was too easy. And really how easy could He really make it anyway?
It’s hard to explain something to someone that is missing a sense. Try to explain a color to a blind person. That is what God is trying to do through the Bible. Explain Himself to people who really have no sense that would do Him justice. There are some descriptions in the Bible that use the words “like unto” or similar. There is nothing we know that can describe God or things in Heaven, so we have to say what is similar to something we do know about.
It is difficult to put this into words and this has been over simplified. Of course, AW Tozer does a great job helping us to know The Holy in his book. I highly recommend AW Tozer’s books. Hopefully this has encouraged you to dig for God and get to know Him better.
